PETALING JAYA (9 July 2009) – The Asean Football Federation (AFF) Under-16 Championship which was supposed to be held in Bangkok next month has been postponed.
The championship, which was designed to serve as a tune-up for the AFC Championship qualifiers later in the year, was scheduled to take place at the Rajamangala Stadium on 6-19 August 2009. According to an official letter to the AFF from the FA of Thailand (FAT) which was signed by Ong-Arj Kosinkar, the general secretary, the reason for the postponement was due to the growing concern over the A(H1N1) flu in the country. “As you are well aware of the wide spread of the A(H1N1) flu in Thailand and our authorities concerned have been fighting very hard to suppress this 2009 influenza. Due to this current fact and all various concerned which have been raised by our authorities, we would like to postpone the above-mentioned tournament to the future possible dates “We thank you sincerely for your kind understanding in this matter and kindly inform our Member Associations concerned regarding this postponement.” In the meantime, the AFF Under-19 Championship scheduled for 4-16 August 2009 in Vietnam will still be held as planned since there has been no request from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) for a change. |
