HANOI (26 July 2012) – The VFF Cup just a month before opening their campaign in Bangkok will be the key to Vietnam’s aspiration to win their second crown in the biggest regional meet this year.
Placed in Group A of the AFF Suzuki Cup, the Vietnamese are up against hosts Thailand, the Philippines and the winning team from the qualifying round.
And while they might be playing a handful of friendlies in September and the early part of November, it is the VFF Cup at the end of October which will really polish up their game for the biennial meet.
For the VFF Cup slated for 24-28 October, Vietnam will take on DPR Korea, Turkmenistan and Iran Under-22 squad.
Prior to that the team, which will convene in the early part of September, will take on defending ASEAN champions Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur on 11 September before taking on Indonesia in Jakarta four days later.
Vietnam will then entertain Indonesia at the My Dinh National Stadium on 22 September just before the VFF Cup. They will play Malaysia at home on 3 November before heading to Bangkok on 20 November.
