SINGAPORE (28 Nov 2014) – After recording victories over defending champions Singapore and Malaysia, Thailand are through to the semifinals but they are not taking any chances and will field their best available team against Myanmar tomorrow.
While Myanmar have one point from two games and only have a mathematical chance of advancing, they will want to end their run here on a high. And what better way to finish then with a win over the favourites.
Thai assistant coach Kluirang Threejagsang said at the pre-match conference that the team was on a roll and wanted to keep up their winning ways. “Although we are in the semis, we will still go for a win. The team is hungry for success and will push for more victories.”
Sitting in for head coach Kiatisuk Senamuang, who was at the team’s morning training session, Kluirang said the team wanted to continue winning for the fans. “They have been very supportive.”
Myanmar coach Radojko Avramovic also had much to say about their own fans. “I want to thank them for coming out and supporting us. “Even when we down by three goals, they continued supporting the team.” The support clearly inspired the players who managed to score two goals, however, it was a little too late for the team.
He explained that the team had actually shown much improvement here. “They have proven they can match the other teams and this is a huge step up. But they need to be able to do it throughout the game.” Avramovic said this consistency can only achieved through more internationals and the experience of dealing with better players.”
The former Singapore coach says that the Myanmar players must learn to believe in themselves. “Our first goal against Singapore was brilliant and we created many chances but did not score. I hope they will take this attitude into the next game.”
In both matches, Myanmar showed they were capable of matching their rivals. With a semis place somewhat slim, tomorrow will be their last chance to end their campaign on a high.
