BANGKOK (16 Dec 2014) – The FA of Thailand (FAT) have announced that there will be security beef up for the first-leg, final of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2014 tomorrow night with more than 1,000 police personnel expected to make their presence felt.
Thailand will entertain Malaysia in the first leg final of the AFF Suzuki Cup at the Rajamangala Stadium with the return tie to be played three days later in Kuala Lumpur.
“Following from what happened during the second leg semi-finals (against the Philippines) the previous week, we have taken measures to make sure that there will be more security presence,” said Theerapong Watanawongpinyo, the deputy general secretary of the FAT.
“We want to make sure that the fans remain calm throughout and that while they can cheer for their teams, they should also be disciplined enough to make sure that they do not become unruly.
“We don’t want a situation which could get out of control where the burnin of flares caused a lot of discomfort to everyone especially to women and children.”
The police personnel will include both the plain clothes and special forces officers.
Theerapong also revealed that some fans, who were giving trouble at the last match, have also been banned from entering the stadium. And tickets scalpers will also be arrested if they are seen anywhere near the stadium.
Tickets for the final match at the Rajamangala Stadium have risen by at least 400% their face value.
