HANOI (29 Nov 2014) – Despite facing an uncertain future when he gets back to Indonesia tomorrow, coach Alfred Riedl is not too affected that his contract might not be extended by the FA of Indonesia (PSSI).
For the second time in two editions of the AFF Suzuki Cup, Indonesia failed to make the cut for the semi-finals. They were the runners-up in 2010 with Riedl at the helm. Nil Maizar was the man in charge two years ago.
“This is the first time in my coaching career here in ASEAN that I have failed to make the cut for the semi-finals,” said Riedl.
“It is a little disappointing but to be fair to the players, we have a lot of problems back home and that affected the preparation of the team. The win against Laos was important as we at least finished with four points.
“I am not sure whether they (PSSI) will extend my contract but whatever it is I’m not looking for another job. If a good offer comes along, I might consider it but we will see.”
Riedl explained that the long season of the Indonesian Super League (ISL) affected the team’s preparation and coupled with the several elections throughout the year, things just got from bad to worst.
But as he pointed out, the players are not to be blamed as they put in more than 100% in all the matches they played in. It is just a question of fitness and at this level, any weaknesses will be exposed.
“We need to be at top peak condition to compete at this level, otherwise we will be punished,” added Riedl.
