JAKARTA (30 Nov 2014) – The FA of Indonesia (PSSI) are in no hurry to end the contract of head coach Alfred Riedl despite the latter’s failure to lead the squad to the semi-finals of the AFF Suzuki Cup.
Indonesia had gone into this year’s tournament as one of the favourites but in Group B, they were held to a 2-2 draw by hosts Vietnam before falling 4-0 to the Philippines and then thrashing Laos 5-1.
“Alfred’s contract was for three years up until the end of 2014. There is also an option for an extension of two more years if he can win the AFF Suzuki Cup,” said Joko Driyono, the general secretary of the PSSI.
“But from the start we had maintained that we will make an overall evaluation of the team regardless of how they fare in the AFF Suzuki Cup. We will be looking at all relevant factors, so it is not as simple as ending the contract with Riedl. We would like to hear what he has to say, the players and also from all levels of the national team.”
