AFF AND FAS STATEMENTS ON CANCELLATION OF TRAINING AT NATIONAL STADIUM
The AFF inspected the National Stadium pitch today and he has concluded that the pitch has improved, is solid and playable. We appreciate the efforts made by the Sports Hub to improve the pitch the past few months. However, to ensure that the grass is in the best condition for the tournament, it has been decided that no training sessions will be held on the pitch. This will help to minimise wear and tear on the field cover before and throughout the competition. The AFF is also appreciative of everyone’s efforts and their understanding in helping to preserve the pitch for the duration of the Suzuki Cup.”
SINGAPORE HEAD COACH BERND STANGE:
“The pitch has certainly improved from a few weeks back. However, it is clear that the grass is still young. As such, we understand the rationale behind the AFF’s decision for all teams to not to have any training sessions on the field, and we respect it.
While we would like to train at the venue, it is more important to ensure that the pitch is of good playing standard on match day. All four teams in the group play passing and attacking football and the decision will enhance ongoing efforts aimed at ensuring that the pitch is in good condition on match day. Ultimately, this will benefit the players who will have a good platform to entertain the fans during the matches.
We have had good preparations for the tournament and the players are now familiar with the type and style of football that I want from them. Even without the training session, they already know what is expected of them and I am confident they will deliver.
I call upon our fans to turn up tomorrow and give us your support. Your physical presence and strong vocal support from the stands will be a source of great inspiration to the Lions. Come and roar them on to success at the Suzuki Cup.”
