PETALING JAYA (21 July 2014) – It will be more than just a friendly when Malaysia entertain Tajikistan next month as the Malaysians will also be looking to be on the winning path as well as to improve their overall FIFA rankings.
Currently placed 151 in the world, the Malaysian national side under new chief coach Dollah Salleh will take on Tajikistan away on 8 August.
“There are two objectives – the first is to be on that winning path all the way to the AFF Suzuki Cup at the end of the year and the second is of course to improve on Malaysia’s FIFA rankings,” said new team manager Datuk Sudarsono Osman.
“Friendlies give us opportunities to test players but at the same time, we have to serious in our approach as a defeat can affect our overall rankings.”
The last game Malaysia played was against the Philippines on 27 April which ended in a scoreless draw.
