SINGAPORE (27 Nov 2014) – Thailand are through to the semifinals of the AFF Suzuki Cup but it’s still open game for Singapore, Malaysia and Myanmar for the second slot from Group B.
The Thais top the group with a maximum six points while Singapore are next in line with three points. Malaysia and Myanamr have one point each. While the Thais are beyond reach, the others are all in the running, some mathematically.
Despite the last-minute defeat to Thailand last night, Malaysian coach Dollah Salleh has refused to throw in the towel. “No, it’s not over yet, we are still in the running,” said Dollah.
Although disappointed with the score, Dollah was happy with the his players. “I was very happy with their performance, they really played well. I had said earlier that Thailand were a tough team.
“I believe if our players can replicate their performance against Thailand, we have chance of going through,” said Dollah, a former international.
Asked if he would be able to lift the team’s spirits up within the next two days, Dollah felt confident he could pull it off. “I think there’s enough time to get their morale up.”
Even if Dollah is able to raise his team’s spirits, they will stil face a herculean task against a rejuvenated Singaporean side whose confidence is high following their 4-2 win over Myanmar. They will also be fired up against a likely capacity crowd at the spanking new National Stadium.
