BANGKOK (20 Oct 2013) – Tobias Seeto nailed a hat-trick as Australia thrashed Timor Leste 8-1 as Myanmar bounced back from their first match defeat to beat Laos 6-1 on the second match day of Group B here at the AFF Futsal Championship at the Bangkok Thonburi University.
With Australia having the day off the previous day and Timor Leste battling to a 2-2 draw against Laos, the game was always going to be a little one-sided especially when Timor keeper Adriano was not at his usual 100%.
And it did not take long for Australia to open the lead when Fernando De Moraes found the back of the net early in the second minute. From then on, it was all Australia as Seeto nailed a hat-trick with goals in the 8th, 19th and 24th minute as Gregory Giovenali (24th and 24th), Wade Giovenali (29th) and Dean Lockhart (34th) scored the other goals.
Timor Leste’s only goal in the game came off Jose Carvalho Vong in the 17th minute.
“It was a tough match yesterday and we struggled against Australia today,” said Timor coach Bruno Torres. “We tried hard but it was just too demanding.”
In the meantime, Myanmar bounced back from their first match defeat to beat Laos 6-1 in the second game of the group.
Aung Aung opened the scoring early in the seventh minute to be followed by further goals from Htet Wai Lin (14th), Kyaw Kyaw Tun (17th), Pyae Phyo Maung (33rd) and Naing Ye Kyaw (36th) as well as an own goal from Soulichanh Phasawaeng in the 30th minute.
Inpan Keomanixay scored the only goal for Laos in the 32nd minute.
“We are just happy with the three points,” said Myanmar team manager Kyi Min Thein.
