BANGKOK (20 April 2012) – Vietnam put up a stunning second half display to vanquish the Philippines 6-1 on the second match day of Group A as Myanmar picked up their first win at the AFF Futsal Championship 2012 when they edged Cambodia 7-6 here at the BangkokThonburi University Stadium.
The Vietnamese, who failed to make the final of the same championship two years ago when they were the hosts, were a lot more calculated this time round before knocking in the lead off Luu Quynh Toan just five minutes in.
But the Philippines still confident after their win over Myanmar yesterday, fought back for Misagh Bahadoran to nail the equalizer – his sixth goals in two matches – in the 16th minute of play.
However, Vietnam still managed to put their noses in front at the break when Bui Van Thang slammed home with a minute left of the first half.
The pep talk during the break was just what Sergio Gargelli’s men needed as Tran Hoang Vinh and Nguyen Bao Quan knocked in two quick goals on 25 minute before Tran Hoang Vinh added the fifth two minutes later.
The Philippines tried to stem the tide and while they conceded just one more goal through Pham Thanh Tuan a minute to the end, they just could not find it within them to close the gap as Vietnam went out clear winners.
In the meantime, Myanmar made up for their disappointing loss to the Philippines yesterday when they overcame Cambodia 7-6. But the game was anything but a walk in the park as Cambodia put up some fierce resistance before conceding the loss right at the end of play.
A hat-trick from Tin Win Ko Ko (13th, 28th and 39th minute) led the way for Myanmar as further goals from Kyaw Kyaw Tun (4th and 27th minute), Aung Aung (8th) and Pyae Pyho Maung 2 (33rd minute) ensured them the three points.
For Cambodia, the loss of concentration midway through the second half cost them the game even though they came close with a hat-trick from I Sothearith (7th, 16th and 23rd minute). Three further goals in the second half off Eung Slauth (23rd minute), Seun Sangpavich (30th) and Eung Slauth (39th) failed to save Cambodia from their second loss in two matches.
