PHNOM PENH (1 Aug 2015) – The stage is set for the Australia-Myanmar clash in Group B of the AFF BIDC Under-16 Championship in two days after each overcame their opponents with relative ease here today at the National Olympic Stadium.
Myanmar blasted the Philippines 3-0 in the afternoon while Australia thrashed Singapore 8-2 in the second game of the evening.
“Consistency is an issue with young players and that was the reason why we struggled at the start,” said Myanmar coach Eric Williams after the win. “We created a lot of chance in either half but we could only managed to score three goals.
“Against Australia, we will not be defensive.”
With the Philippines a little off the pace, it gave Myanmar the advantage in either flanks as the floaters came in fast and furious. But with the inability of Pyae Sone Naing, Hein Htet Aung and Win Naing Tun to be sharp inside the box, the several chances created went a begging.
The floodgates finally opened in the 37th minute when Naing Tun ran in between two Philippines defenders for a short pass to Htet Aung who had little difficulty in putting it away.
And with just a minute remaining of the first half, Myanmar then added to their advantage when Naing Tun scored from close range.
Kyaw Kyaw Htet then rounded things off with the third goal of the game six minutes to the end.

In the meantime, Australia and Singapore had to wait for more than an hour before they were able to take to the field due to the heavy torrential rain which took place yet again for the second time in two days.
But that slight delay did not allow Australia to lose their focus even though they did fall behind by an 18th minute strike from Singapore’s Rezza Rizky Ramadhani Yacobjan, who punished an over-confident Australian defence.
However, the lead lasted only four minutes when Australia slotted in the equalizer through Ramy Najjarine before taking the lead for the first time in the game off Mark Moric a minute later.
From then on, it was all Australia as Moric went on to add three more goals in the 42nd, 70th and 87th minute for his personal best.
In between, Dylan Pierias added a brace (54th and 90th minute) as Rahmat Akbari score the other.
Singapore’s second goal was scored by Glenn Kweh in the 64th minute.

In the postponed game from the previous day from Group A that was played earlier in the morning at the National Olympic Stadium, powerhouse Thailand kept track of a place in the semi-finals this year with a convincing 3-0 win over Timor Leste.
While yesterday, the game was scoreless at the end of a pulsating first half at the Army Stadium before it was interrupted by rain, this time round Thailand just turned on the magic for the full points.
Jinnawat Russamee opened account in the 52nd minute before adding his second of the morning in the 76th minute. Korawich Tasa then added the third goal right at the end.
