HANOI (12 April 2014) – The AFC have expressed concerns over the match-fixing issue which came to light in Vietnam this week.
AFC adopt a zero tolerance policy towards match-fixing and the confederation will provide their full support to the Vietnam Football Federation in their investigation.
AFC will wait for the report of the investigation which is being carried out by the VFF and the authorities in Vietnam before deciding their next course of action.
The AFC Cup regulations have clear provisions (Article 29 c) of the AFC Cup 2014 Competition regulations) to deal with the matters of a team’s withdrawal midway through the competition.
V-League side Vissai Ninh Binh had officially written to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and also the Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company to be allowed to stop their participation in the league and also the AFC Cup.
Ninh Binh had in an official letter stated that the reason why they wish to stop their football activities so that they can investigate allegations of match-fixing by their footballers.
“We suspect that our players are involved in match-fixing. Over the past few months, we have received information related to the team’s results in both the AFC Cup and also the V-League. The team’s boss Hoang Manh Truong got furious and decided to stop all activities of the team to investigate the matter. We have requested the police to make things clear,” said club chairman Pham Van Le.
