YANGON (28 Feb 2015) – An AFC futsal development team has started a three-day assessment visit to Myanmar with the aim of helping improve the game throughout the ASEAN nation.
The AFC team was received at the Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) House by MFF Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Than Zaw and MFF Futsal Director Kyi Min Thein.
In his welcoming speech, Zaw highlighted the importance of this visit for futsal in Myanmar, saying: “Futsal is a new sport in Myanmar yet it has gradually developed in a very short time.
“However, I have to also stress that there are many aspects of futsal that Myanmar needs to learn from other stakeholders such as the AFC.”
Ali Targholizade, Director of AFC Futsal and Beach Soccer Development, who is heading the AFC delegation, explained the key ingredients required to raise the standard of futsal in Asia.
“We need to increase the number of futsal power houses in Asia and that is of course natural with Myanmar in mind,” he said.
“Myanmar is gradually becoming one of the strongest teams in the ASEAN region. Coach education and grassroots is the key to creating talented and skillful players for futsal.
“The AFC will do its best to assist the MFF in all areas to make this young sport more successful in this country.”
