KUALA LUMPUR (31 Jan 2013) – The AFC Executive Committee met today under the chairmanship of AFC Acting President Zhang Jilong and decided to hold an Extraordinary Congress and an Ordinary Congress here in Kuala Lumpur on 2 and 3 May, 2013, respectively.
The main business of the AFC Extraordinary Congress on 2 May would be to elect the AFC President; one female AFC Vice-President; two female members to the AFC Executive Committee, and one position on the FIFA Executive Committee.
The Ordinary Congress on May 3 will fulfill the statutory business, including the report of the general secretary, amendments to the Statutes, etc.
The term for the position of the AFC President, one female AFC Vice-President and two female AFC Executive Committee members will be from 2013 until 2015, while the position on the FIFA Executive Committee will have a four-year term until 2017.
The nominations for all the positions opened today (90 days before the day of the Extraordinary Congress) and will close on 3 March, 2013 (60 days before the Extraordinary Congress). The final list of candidates will be released on 2 April, 2013, 30 days before the day of the Extraordinary Congress.
