DILI (5 Feb 2014) – The AFC have commended the FA of Malaysia (FAM) for taking action against 17 players who were found guilty of match-fixing.
A total of 17 players from Kuala Lumpur’s 2013 Premier League side were fined RM 5000 (USD 1,500) each by the disciplinary committee of the FAM for their involvement in match fixing.
AFC General Secretary Dato’ Alex Soosay said that the AFC have zero tolerance policy against match-manipulation and FAM’s efforts must be praised.
“FAM’s action prove that they are taking steps to keep the game clean. AFC have also set up a task force to help the Member Associations fight this menace and we will certainly help the FAM in their efforts,” he said.
The AFC in close collaboration with FIFA, Interpol and the local authorities of AFC’s MAs are in the midst of organizing several workshops to educate and establish preventive measures to eradicate the negative elements in football.
“AFC are committed to proper administration of justice but more importantly to keep up with the Asian game which is progressing well.
“In light of this, the steps taken by FAM are akin to the philosophy of AFC.”
