KUALA LUMPUR (28 June 2009) – The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has decided to indefinitely postponed the AFC Futsal Club Championship 2009 due to growing security concern in Iran.
The AFC Futsal Championship, which was due to be held in the city of Isfahan from 4-11 July 2009. Following the postponement, the AFC has yet to confirm on the new dates and where they are closely monitoring the security situation in Iran following civil unrest after the recent general election. The tournament was to feature the leading futsal clubs from ten AFC countries where apart from Port Authority of Thailand (Thailand), the others are New South Wales Thunder (Australia), Wuhan Dilong (China), Foolad Mahan Sepahan (Iran), Newroz Sports Club (Iraq), Nagoya Oceans (Japan), AUB Altyn Tash (Kyrgyzstan), Pro’s Café (Lebanon) and Al Sadd (Qatar). The tournament was supposed to be the first-ever AFC championship for Futsal clubs. |
