AFC MEET A BOOST FOR THAI FUTSAL

BANGKOK (22 April 2008) – Adisak Benjasiriwan, the chairman of the AFC Futsal Championship 2008 Local Organising Committee believes that Thailand’s hosting of the Futsal meet will go a long way to promoting the game in the country.

Bangkok is the host city of the 10th edition of the AFC Futsal Championship on 11-18 May 2008.

“Futsal is a very popular sport in Thailand, thanks to the performance of our national team and also our regular hosting of top-class tournaments,” said Adisak.

“We organise under-17, youth and university-level matches apart from the Thailand Futsal League. The Asean Futsal teams also compete here almost on a yearly basis as well with the hosting of the Asean Futsal Championship.

“I am confident that the AFC Futsal Championship will be of great interest for fans as it is also a qualifier for the FIFA Futsal World Cup.”

For the championship this year, Thailand have been place in Group A alongside Kyrgyzstan, Iraq and Indonesia.
