JAKARTA (13 June 2015) – Officials from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) met with representatives from Persipura Jayapura and from the government of the Republic of Indonesia to discuss the AFC Executive Committee decision that Persipura Jayapura forfeit their AFC Cup match against Pahang FA.
The AFC delegation, led by Deputy General Secretary Dato’ Windsor John, clarified the legal basis of the decision to Deputy Secretary General of the Indonesian Ministry for Youth and Sport Mr Gatot S. Dewa Broto and officials from Persipura Jayapura and the embassy of the Republic of Indonesia to Malaysia.
It was noted that the AFC Cup competition regulations clearly state the responsibilities of the host club, including ensuring that the required visas are granted to players of the visiting team.
The AFC Executive Committee had earlier decided that Persipura Jayapura (IDN) shall forfeit the match against Pahang FA (MAS) that was due to be played on May 26, 2015.
The fixture could not go ahead as planned as some of the Pahang FA players were denied entry into Indonesia due to visa issues (see AFC statement of May 25, 2015 for further information).
Therefore, Persipura Jayapura is considered to have lost the match by 3-0.
The decision was taken based on the AFC Cup 2015 Competition Regulations and the AFC Disciplinary Code.
