DILI (18 August 2016) – The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and ASEANAPOL met at the AFC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, today as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the fight against the menace of match-fixing in the region.
The meeting also reinforced the AFC’s vision and mission to ensure that all competitions and matches in Asia conform to the highest ethical and sporting standards.
The AFC General Secretary Dato’ Windsor John said: “The AFC has a zero tolerance to match-manipulation, which goes against the intrinsic foundations and values of our sport – fair play and respect.
“Working closely with relevant stakeholders such as ASEANAPOL will enhance our ability to deploy a 360-degree approach on the issue through prevention, detection and response.
“As envisaged in our vision and mission, we will continue to strengthen our position among the leading international sport bodies firmly committed to curbing the issue of match-fixing.”
Discussions at today’s meeting between the AFC and ASEANAPOL were structured around a concept paper on the possibility to forge closer collaboration. The idea was brought up at a previous meeting between the parties in April. ASEANAPOL also shared with the AFC representatives some key insights on its recently conducted 36th Conference held in Putrajaya, Malaysia.
Looking ahead, the AFC and ASEANAPOL also agreed to continue working closely with other relevant stakeholders and bodies to establish a more targeted approach and greater collaboration to combat match-fixing.
The ASEANAPOL delegation comprised Executive Director Police Brigadier General Yohanes Agus Mulyono, Director for Police Services Police Senior Superintendent Ferdinand Realtor Piedad Bartolome, Deputy Superintendent of Police Chia Lee Leng and Assistant Superintendent of Police Saravanan Munusamy.
