SINGAPORE (21 June 2011) – The Singapore Under-16 side picked up their first point in the 23rd Lion City Cup when they held the Under-15 side of CR Flamengo to a 1-1 draw at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
“I’m not satisfied with the result as we conceded a late goal. But I am however happy with the performance of the team where it has allowed us to prepare for the next game (against Everton U-15),” said Takuma Koga, the chief coach of the Singapore U16.
The score at the end of the first half was 0-0.
The red card on Flamengo’s Ciao Thimoteo in the 53rd minute of play changed the pace of the game and the young Singapore side took advantage for Muhaimin Suhaimi to score.
But Flamengo did not despair and after some sustained pressure, saw Jorge Marco nailing the eqauliser with an 85th minute stinger.
“I felt that the players played well and I’m happy with the result,” said Celso Martins. “The dismissal (on Thimoteo) was fair where he mistimed his challenge.”
