BANGKOK (12 Aug 2011) – The FA of Thailand (FAT) are offering up to USD 400,000 (THB 12 million baht) should the national side make the final round of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
Thailand – in Group D of the third round qualifiers against Australia, Saudi Arabia and Oman – will open their campaign against Australia on 2 Sept 2011.
“The men’s team will receive 12 million baht (USD 400,000) if they reach Asia’s final qualifying stage, or the last 10 teams, for the 2014 World Cup,” said Dato’ Worawi Makudi, the president of the FAT.
“The team will get two million baht (USD 67,000)for each win and one million (USD33,500) baht for each draw.”
Only the top two teams from each of the five groups advance to the final round.
In the meantime, the Thai women’s team who are in Asia’s final qualifying round for the 2012 Olympics has been offered 10 million baht (USD 333,830) should they win one of only two available spots to London.
Thailand are one of the six teams who will be vying for two berths in a round-robin competition in China next month.
The other five teams are world champions Japan, Australia, China, South Korea and North Korea.
