HO CHI MINH CITY (6 June 2009) – A total of 17 referees took part in the AFF Futsal Preparatory Course which was concluded this evening at the Thanh Long Sports Complex in Ho Chi Minh City.
Lasting for four days, the referees’ course was held in conjunction with the AFF Futsal Championship slated for 8-14 June 2009. Under the guidance of FIFA instructor Yasuhiro Matsuzaki, the course covers a wide range of subjects from the theoretical Amendments of the Futsal Laws of the Game to the practical session of Physical preparations for Futsal referees. “There is a wide disparity in the quality of referees in ASEAN – the gap between the best and the not so good is far too wide, “ said Matsuzaki. “But the response from the participants has been very positive where the referees from Myanmar – after the first two days – are now more talkative and expressive. “What they need is more exposure to give them experience and they will catch up with the rest for sure.” Much of the course subject dealt with the new changes to the Futsal Laws of the Game apart from exposing the referees to a discussion on dealing with incidents in World Cup-level matches, as well as on Positioning and Movements and Signals. At the end of the course, the referees were also quizzed on the right decisions on several given scenarios. Out of the 17 referees who attended the course, eight will be involved in the AFF Futsal Championship 2009.
