BANGKOK (16 June 2008) – The dream is over for both Thailand and Singapore when they conceded defeat in their pivotal group matches of the third round of the 2010 World Cup qualifiiers on the weekend.
Thailand lost their fifth game in Group 2 of the Asian qualifiers 3-0 to Japan while Singapore fell to a 2-0 defeat to Saudi Arabia in Group 4. Playing at home at the Stadium Rajamangala was no advantage at all for the Thais when they conceded two goals at the half way mark off Marcus Tulio Tanaka (23rd minute), Yuji Nakazawa (39th minute) before Kengo Nakamura made sure of the points with the third goal a minute to the end. In the meantime at the National Stadium, a goal each from Abdoh Autef in the 37th minute and another from substitute Ahmed Al Fraidi in the 73rd minute were enough for Saudi Arabia to see off Singapore. |
