MANILA (9 May 2012) – The Philippines national Under-22 team will head to Thailand for a series of friendlies as they gear up for the qualifying round of the AFC U22 Asian Cup slated for 23 June to 3 July 2012 in Myanmar.
Other than the hosts, the other teams the Philippines will be up against in Group G are Korea Republic, Malaysia, Vietnam and Chinese Taipei.
Following a successful tryouts in the provinces the previous week, the team has been hard at work in centralized training under chief coach John Carmona. They played their first friendly on the weekend where they overcame Agila FC 3-0.
They will take on Loyola Meralco Sparks Loyola this week.
A total of 41 teams will battle for the only 15 available places in the main draw of the AFC U22 Asian Cup next year.
