SINGAPORE (27 August 2010) – The Singapore national team ended their Tour of Serbia with a 2-2 draw against Serbian First Division side FK Jagodina at the Stadion FK Jagodina.
Earlier, the Lions had conceded identical 1-0 losses to the Serbian XI and also to FK Vojvodina Novi-Sad. Against FK Jagodina, who finished in sixth place in the Serbian First Division last season, Singapore found themselves trailing as early as the 15th minute when defender Predrag Dordevic slotted in the leas for the homesters. Singapore then drew level in the 53rd minute off defender Baihakki Khaizan before taking the lead from Hariss Harun’s stinger three minutes later. However, the visitors were denied their first win in the tour when striker Dejan Denic found the equalizer in injury time. “I’m pleased with the team’s performance. We showed strong character against quality opposition. Personally, I thought we were slightly unlucky not to get the win,” said Singapore chief coach Radojko Avramovic afterwards. “They dominated in the first half but we came out very strong in the second half and were unfortunate to concede the goal so late into the game. “Overall, I’m very happy with this trip and I believe it was an invaluable experience for our players, especially the younger ones.” Singapore are using the tour as part of their preparations for the Asian Games in November as well as the AFF Suzuki Cup 2010 in December. |
